New Hot Water Heater Standards

As of April 16, 2015, the NAECA Guidelines are changing the standards for Hot Water Heaters. The new hot water heaters will be required to be up to 2" wider and 2" taller to meet the new federal rules. (visit for a 2 page brochure on the changes) We are expected to see these new water heaters in our supply houses around February 2015.

What this means for you. If your current unit is in a small space and can not accommodate a larger unit, you may have to reduce the capacity of your water heater to accommodate the space. (For example, go from a 40 gallon to a 30 gallon hot water heater) Also the price will increase by around 25% per unit. Another alternative is to install a Tankless hot water heater. However they are not on the same price range as traditioal storage type water heaters. Most Tankless hot water heater installs are around 3-4 times the average price of a standard storage tank water heater.
